What's under the plank
Exact Match Vents says it builds a 1/2-inch layer of birch plywood into each vent to make it strong and stable, and designs it as a floating installation so the duct stays accessible.
Vents.com uses a metal backer instead. In a 2-inch puck test, our vent held 1,200 lb. Plywood and metal each have trade-offs: plywood is easy to machine, and metal stays stiff at a thin gauge. If foot traffic over a vent is a worry, ask any maker for a load figure. Exact Match doesn't list one on the pages we checked.
Price and what's covered
The Exact Match Modern vent is listed from $110 up to $181, depending on size and options. That's lower than Vents.com's LVP range of $135 to $190. On materials, its product page lists engineered hardwood and LVP/LVT, and notes that laminate isn't supported yet.
