Before Your LVP Install: Floor Vent Checklist
If your LVP is about to go down, this is the best moment to sort out the floor vents. Ordering now means the installer can fit the floor around matching vents instead of putting the old white registers back.

The checklist
- Count and measure every ventPull each register and measure the duct opening. Do it now, while the old floor is still down and easy to reach. Measuring guide
- Check your plank thicknessIt needs to be at least 5 mm, not counting any attached pad. Most LVP sold today meets this.
- Set aside one plank per ventTake them from the same cartons as the floor so the color lot matches.
- Order before the underlayment goes downOnce the order is in, ship the planks and we build the vents.
- Tell your installerLet them know flush vents are coming so they leave the duct openings clean and can cut the floor to the vent frame.
What to tell your installer
"Don't reinstall the old registers"
Flush vents sit level with the floor, so no surface-mount register goes back on top.
"Keep the duct openings clear"
The vent frame drops into the opening, so it needs to be the measured size.
"Run the planks to match"
If you note which way the planks run in each room, we can match the grain direction.
Questions
When should I order vents?
As soon as your flooring is picked and delivered. Ordering before the floor goes down lets the installer cut the opening around the vent frame.
Can I still order if the floor is already in?
Yes. The opening is then cut into the finished floor, which takes more care, but it is done all the time.
Does underlayment or an attached pad matter?
The plank itself needs to be at least 5 mm thick, not counting any attached pad. Underlayment does not change the vent size.
What sizes can I order?
Measure the duct opening at each vent, then pick the matching size on the product page.
